Bridge Grants for Equine Rescues

Across the United States, tens of thousands of horses need rescue every year — and the organizations working to save them often operate on the thinnest of margins, one crisis away from being unable to continue. Brooke USA's Bridge Grant program, administered jointly with the EQUUS Foundation, provides small but impactful grants — typically $500 to $1,500 — to equine charities facing sudden, unplanned hardship. Whether responding to natural disasters, emergency veterinary needs, law enforcement seizures, or situations where owners can no longer provide care, these funds keep horses safe and organizations operational. The program also supports preventive services like feed and hay banks, farrier care, and humane end-of-life support. With $10,000 allocated for 2026, every dollar goes directly toward protecting horses and the people who care for them most.

Brooke USA’s Bridge Grants support EQUUS Foundation Guardian charities facing urgent financial hardship caused by unplanned, unexpected, and extenuating circumstances, including catastrophes and disasters. Last year, through Brooke USA’s Bridge Grants, the EQUUS Foundation provided critical financial assistance to Horse Haven of Tennessee as they responded to an urgent cruelty case involving 50 severely neglected horses. The property lacked adequate shelter, forage, and clean water. While the owner agreed to surrender only the 11 most critical cases, these horses required immediate veterinary care and intensive support—placing an unexpected financial burden on the organization.
