Looking Ahead While Celebrating the Journey

This month we celebrate a remarkable chapter in Brooke USA's history, launch exciting new initiatives, and invite you to continue creating lasting change for working equines around the world.

A Message from Brooke USA CEO, Emily Dulin

For the past 10 years, Kendall Bierer has been an integral part of the Brooke USA family. From our earliest days, she has helped shape the organization we are today through her unwavering dedication, compassion, professionalism, and genuine love for our mission. While we are sad to see her begin a new chapter in her career, we are equally proud of all she has accomplished and grateful for the countless ways she has touched our donors, partners, volunteers, Board members, and staff.

Please join me in celebrating Kendall's remarkable decade of service to Brooke USA and in wishing her every happiness and success in the exciting journey ahead. Below, Kendall shares a few personal words of gratitude and farewell.

A Heartfelt Thank You

There are moments in life when you realize just how much a single opportunity has shaped who you have become. As I prepare to conclude my time with Brooke USA Foundation at the end of August, I find myself reflecting on a journey that has been one of the greatest privileges of my life.

For more than a decade, Brooke USA has been woven into the fabric of my life. I have truly lived and breathed this mission, celebrating every milestone, every campaign, every event, every partnership, and every life changed because of your generosity. From designing social media campaigns to our special events, riding out the World Equestrian Games during a hurricane and advocating to end the Donkey Hide Crisis on Capitol Hill, and traveling to see our funded work in action, every big moment and those in between have shaped me. I have watched Brooke USA grow from a small but passionate organization into one of the leading equine welfare nonprofits in the United States—expanding its reach, strengthening its impact, and improving the lives of hundreds of thousands of working horses, donkeys, mules, and the people who depend on them each year.

While organizations grow because of dedicated staff and visionary leadership, they thrive because of people like you.

To our donors, sponsors, volunteers, partners, and friends: thank you. Thank you for believing in this mission. Thank you for your kindness, your generosity, your advocacy, and your unwavering commitment to improving the lives of working equines and the communities they serve. Thank you for every smile, laugh and story shared. Your support has made every success possible, and it has been an incredible honor to share those stories with you over the years.

I am equally grateful for the remarkable leadership and staff of Brooke USA. Their passion, talent, and unwavering dedication inspire me every day, and I would not be where I am today without them. Together, we have poured our hearts into this mission because we believe in the difference it makes. It has been an honor to stand beside such extraordinary people in service to a mission we all love.

Although I am beginning a new chapter in my career, Brooke USA will always hold a special place in my heart. I look forward to continuing to support the organization as both a donor and volunteer, and I hope to see many of you at future events. Once Brooke USA becomes part of your heart, it never truly leaves.

As I say goodbye, my heart is filled with gratitude—for the experiences, the friendships, the lessons, and the opportunity to have contributed to something so much bigger than myself.

With deepest gratitude,

Kendall Bierer

Be Among the First to Make an Impact

Every day, working horses, donkeys, and mules carry water, transport crops, support families, and sustain livelihoods in some of the world's most vulnerable communities. This year, Brooke USA is proud to expand its global impact by supporting three exciting new initiatives that will improve the welfare of working equines while empowering the people who depend on them.

Together, these projects will provide veterinary care, humane equipment, owner education, and sustainable community-led solutions that create lasting change. Your generosity can help bring each of these programs to life.

Project Donkey | Namibia

In 2026, Brooke USA Foundation's Program Manager, Carlos Fernando Lopez, will provide capacity building, technical guidance, and mentoring to field partner, Namibia Working Animal Association (NAWA). His work will strengthen the organization's systems, enhance program delivery, and prepare for the launch of an expanded working equine welfare program in 2027. Brooke USA will also work with NAWA to cultivate strategic partnerships and secure long-term supporters, helping ensure the program's sustainability and impact well into the future. This initiative reflects Brooke USA's expanding approach to partner support by sharing in-house expertise to strengthen local organizations and improve the effectiveness and sustainability of field programs.

Donkey Welfare & Community Support Program | South Africa

In the rural communities of Selwane, Majeje, and Mashishimale, donkeys are essential for transporting water, firewood, crops, and other daily necessities. Through its partnership with Animal Relief for Rural Communities (ARRC), Brooke USA will support this three-year project to expand veterinary outreach, improve access to clean water and shelter, replace harmful harnesses with humane alternatives, and educate owners on best practices to improve donkey welfare. The program aims to directly benefit approximately 600 working donkeys while strengthening the livelihoods and resilience of the communities that rely on them.

Integrated Equine Welfare & Community Resilience Program | Colombia

Working horses, donkeys, and mules are vital to rural families throughout Colombia, yet many suffer from preventable injuries and limited access to veterinary care. Through a partnership with Fundación Arrieros Colombia, this innovative program in the region of Antioquia located in Central Northwestern Colombia combines veterinary outreach, owner education, community leadership training, and humane handling practices to improve the lives of up to 900 working equines while building long-term resilience in the communities they serve. Antioquia is one of Colombia’s most important Arabica coffee-producing regions, while also contributing significantly to the country’s production of flowers, fruits, cereals, and dairy products. Working equines are essential for cattle ranching, crop transportation and navigating the rocky terrain of the Andes Mountains, often leading to back pain, injury and lameness.
