Join the Movement. Stop the Slaughter.

Dear Kendall,

Over the last year Brooke USA Foundation has called on our supporters to help when working horses, donkeys and mules, as well as the vulnerable communities they support needed our help. You have been there to make a difference, and we are truly grateful.

However, we need you more than ever right now.

In June, commemorating Dorothy Brooke’s birthday, we delivered a strong and poignant message to Amazon executives. Together, with over 200 organizational signatures, we expressed our disappointment with Amazon’s decision to continue selling ejiao, the product derived from boiling the hides of donkeys and used in traditional Chinese medicine and beauty products.

As you already know, the slaughter of donkeys to produce ejiao is putting global donkey populations at risk and threatening the livelihoods of millions of people that depend on them. While Africa remains the primary source of both legally and illegally sourced donkey hides to China, the trade is spreading across the globe. The situation is dire and one that requires us to continue our work; donkeys and their very poor owners are suffering.

We need to be in constant communication with Amazon’s leadership, keeping our concerns top of mind for senior management and especially the company’s new CEO Andy Jassy. To date, Amazon has NOT responded to our letter, another reason for us to now mobilize our supporters.

At Brooke USA, and with our Brooke family of branches, affiliates, and partners, we are asking our friends and followers to write directly to Amazon’s CEO Mr. Andy Jassy. With a goal of 10,000 supporters and starting TODAY, August 16, we are distributing post cards and sample letters to mail or email to Mr. Jassy. We will also be running a social media campaign and possess public service ads for media placement.

Will you help us stop the import and sale of Ejiao on Amazon?

  • Visit brookeusa.org/amazon to send your email or download our sample letter for you to send.
  • Request postcards from us which you can distribute to those you know and count on.
  • Share the campaign with your friends, family and other animal welfare organizations.
  • Share Brooke USA’s social media posts on your own social media, or we can send you artwork so that you can add your own message.

We hope you will be a part of this effort and that you will join us as we fight for a ban on the sale of ejiao by Amazon.

Warmly,
